You will die. And so will I.
It’s a fact we don’t need to debate.
Beforehand you have some goals you want to reach though, right? I do, too. What are the ultimate goals, though?
Leading a $2B company?
Or is the magic number $7B? (One of my clients stated this goal this week!)
Maybe you want to have a happy family?
Or financial independence?
Perhaps fame?
Or maybe a simple happy life?

It’s true. You work because you want to, because there is a reason bigger than you and your financial security that drives you.
So, I have been thinking.
What is the ultimate goal? What are you striving for? Happiness? Fulfillment? Success? Significance?
What comes after financial success and having reached the top of your ladder? Inevitable decline?
Why would anyone want to reach the top then? Let’s just pile on more and more? No, that can’t be it.
So, what if after the climb to the top another ladder appears, one that is more fulfilling, more rewarding, and more meaningful?
What if it’s an inner journey, not an external path?
What if everyone that came before you has been waiting for you to take this inward trip? A path you can’t really talk about with anyone else for fear of being misunderstood because everyone else is still chasing the money dragon?
What if once you reach your top, the goal post moves to a different dimension, where material things don’t matter as much, where fame and power are less important? Where it matters more to give back and serve others, nurture the ones coming after you, support the next leadership and their lonely journey? Where you are needed, but where you need to show up differently to a calling you didn’t see coming? Where there is a life more beautiful than you had imagined? More rewarding. More blissful.
